UPFI Calendar of Multimedia Workshop Schedule 2007

UPFI CALENDAR OF MULTIMEDIA WORKSHOP SCHEDULE 2007

1.) WRITING ABOUT FILMS Film Theory and Criticism: Facilitator; Mr.
Patrick Campos

Date May 14,16,18,21, 23,25 (MWF)

Time; 1:00-5:00, Venue: Videotheque

Fee: P5,000. (inclusive of light snacks, handouts, use of equipment,
UPFI workshop kits, and certificates. )

*Participants who register in Writing About Film I and II can avail of a
20% discount.

Writing About Film Theory and Criticism is a workshop that seeks to
introduce participants to key classical and contemporary film theories
and to prepare them to write informed and scholarly film criticism. Its
aim is to survey philosophies of aesthetics as they can be related to
film (e.g., Greco-Roman, Hebrew, Asian); early theories that sought to
define the essence of film as art form (e.g., theories by Eisenstein,
Arnheim, Bazin); and contemporary theories that deal with film as
cultural-political- economic apparatus (e.g., structuralism,
deconstructionism, postcolonialism) .

2.) BASIC SCRIPTWRITING: Facilitator; Libay Cantor

Dates; May 5, 12, 19, 26, & June 2 (Sat)

Time; 1 - 6pm. Venue CMC 107 A or Cine Adarna Conference Room 2nd

Fee: P6,000 (inclusive of light snacks, handouts, printing /
photocopying services for writing exercises, UPFI workshop kits, and certificates) .

Basic Scriptwriting: Visualizing from Scratch is a workshop intended for
the absolute beginner, who has no background whatsoever in film,
writing, media or the arts, but who wants to discover the possibilities
of scriptwriting. It introduces participants to the "real basics" of
writing for film, from the "translation" of written abstract concepts
into visual-moving images (and vice versa – translation of perceived
cinematic images into the written word), to a hands-on discovery of the
essential concepts and components of a script that works.

3.) Intermediate Scriptwriting ( 5 days / 25 hours) Facilitator:
Libay Linsangan Cantor

Dates : May 15, 17, 20, 22, 24,27 (Tue, Thurs, Sun)
Time : 1 - 6pm
Fee: P6,000, inclusive of light snacks, handouts, printing /
photocopying services for writing exercises, and certificate.

Intermediate Scriptwriting is a workshop that focuses on creating and
improving storytelling designs. Whether the material is intended for a
short film or a feature-length film, it is crucial that a storyline's
design is developed properly, considering the nature of the visual
medium. The workshop focuses on three major aspects of screenplay
development: plot design, character design, and story structure. It aims
to help the participants to determine what will work and will not work
in a screenplay.

4.) BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY: Facilitator; Vivian Limpin

Date; May 5, 12, 19, 26, & June 2 (Sat)

Time; 10:00 am to 6 pm

Fee: P6,000 (inclusive of light snacks, handouts, use of equipment, UPFI
workshop kits, and certificates. )

Black & White Photography is a workshop that introduces students to the
basics of photography. Its aim is to give participants a background on
the principles and aesthetics of photography, including camera control,
framing & composition, developing & darkroom printing, and more. B&W
photography is foundational to the technical and creative aspects of
filmmaking and other visual media

5.) ART AND ANIMATION: Facilitator; Roxlee and Pinoy Animagination

Dates; May 7-19 (Mon to Sat)

Time; 10:00 am to 6 pm. Venue: CMC A 107-B or Videoteque, (TBC)

Fee: P12,000. (inclusive of light snacks, handouts, use of equipment,
UPFI workshop kits, and certificates. )

Art & Animation is a workshop that equips the participants' eyes,
hands, and imaginations, like no other animation workshop in town can
do. It aims to hone students' skills to create animated works using
materials that range from everyday things to new technologies. In this
workshop, participants are introduced to various media and techniques of
animation, such as flipbook, thumbnail & storyboards; cut-outs, collage
& silhouette; found object assemblage & clay; paint-on-glass & colored
sand; and others.

6.) DOCUMENTARY PRODUCTION: Facilitator ; Milo Paz

Dates; May 15-19 & 21 (Tue to Sat, Mon )

Time; 9:00-5:00 pm. Venue: Videotheque

Fee: P8,000. (inclusive of light snacks, handouts, use of equipment,
UPFI workshop kits, and certificates. )

Documentary Filmmaking is a workshop that introduces the participants to
the history, sub-genres (e.g., cinema verité, ethnographic
documentary, travelogue, docu-drama, mockumentary, etc.), techniques,
and aesthetics of the documentary. It equips the participants with
skills in using video and sound equipment, in the context of documentary
filmmaking individually or with a crew.

7.) INDIE FILM PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP: Facilitator: Cynthia
Cruz-Paz

Dates; May 19,20,26 (Sat,Sun,Sat. )

Time; 1:00- 6:00 pm Venue: Videotheque

Fee: P4,750. (inclusive of light snacks, handouts, use of equipment,
UPFI workshop kits, and certificates. )

Indie Film Production Management workshop examines the role of the
production manager in an independent film production. It emphasizes both
theoretical and practical matters involved in a production's logistical
management, including script breakdown and analysis, scheduling
workflow, budgeting, and acquisition of personnel and facilities.
Exercises lead to a hands-on understanding of the actual producing and
managing of a digital movie.

8.) SOUND & MUSIC DESIGN FOR FILM: INDIGENOUS FILIPINO MUSIC & WORLD
CHANTS

Facilitator; Carol Bello

Dates; May 21- 26 (Mon to Sat)

Time; 10:00 am to 6 pm. Venue: CMC A-107 B

Fee: 7, 000 (inclusive of light snacks, handouts, use of equipment, UPFI
workshop kits, and certificates. )

Sound & Music Design for Film: Indigenous Filipino Music & World Chants
is a workshop for those who are interested in exploring
sound-emotionscapes for film, including directing and/or creating music
scores, inspired by traditional Filipino music and melodic chants from
various parts of the globe. Participants go through the basics of
hands-on film sound recording & sound manipulation, and, at the same
time, learn Filipino melodic & rhythmic patterns, played on indigenous
and modern instruments. If you are a musician, a music lover or film
music enthusiast, this workshop is for you.

9.) BASIC DIGITAL CINEMATOGRAPHY: Facilitator: Dix Buhay

Dates; May 21 – 26 (Mon to Sat)

Time; 10am to 6pm. Venue: CMC Basement

Fee: 12,000. (inclusive of light snacks, handouts, use of equipment,
UPFI workshop kits, and certificates)

Basic Digital Cinematography is a workshop that introduces the
participants to the tools, equipment, and technical work of the
cinematographer (and the gaffer), in the context of digital filmmaking.
Participants and are introduced to the art & technique of lighting for
video (e.g., manipulating the quality & quantity of light; deciding on
light sources; learning color temperatures; making decisions on lighting
motivations; mounting the 3-point lighting system) and using the digital
camera (e.g., maximizing the stationary and the mobile frames; making
decisions on composition) .

10.) ADVANCED DIGITAL CINEMATOGRAPHY: Facilitator: Louie Quirino

Dates; May 28-June 2

Time; 10am to 6pm. Venue: CMC Basement

Fee: 15,000. (inclusive of light snacks, handouts, use of equipment,
UPFI workshop kits, and certificates)

Advanced Digital Cinematography is a workshop for the participants who
have tried their hands on the basics of DV cinematography, but would
like to further hone their technical skills and better understand camera
technologies and functions (e.g., identifying various formats;
understanding the Vectorscope & Waveform Monitor; learning and using the
zone system, zebra, and marker functions; creating tones; manipulating
light in relation to the camera). The workshop also introduces the
participants to color correction and the other post-production work of
the cinematographer.
