Sinekalye hits the streets of Los Angeles

Sinekalye@Tribal is a celebration of Filipino independent films produced and shot entirely
in the Philippines by Filipino filmmakers. Homegrown Filipino art brought stateside aims to
introduce Filipino love to the streets of California. Yes, we are here, this is our world, and
these are our stories!

Sinekalye (street cinema) is a group of independent filmmakers, visual artists and
musicians who share a passion for independent filmmaking and music. It is the brainchild
of the notoriously famous Rox Lee, known for his quirky animated short films, music and
paintings. Aiming to spread the influence of independently produced Filipino art
throughout the Philippines and beyond, Sinekalye has done this bit by bit by taking films
and music out into the streets. Sinekalye in the Philippines aims to reach out to the
common people, to teach them, inspire them, and help them eke out the realization of
their own dreams through films and music.

Having staged film showings and workshops all throughout the Philippines, in streets,
parks and roadside basketball courts, Sinekalye is ready to represent the Filipino soul
around the world!

In April 2004, Sinekalye was invited to screen their independent films and perform their
own music at the 17th Singapore International Film Festival. Finally having reached the
U.S., Sinekalye is eager to share the experience with fellow Filipinos and Americans.

Appropriately located at Historic Filipino Town in Los Angeles, Sinekalye@Tribal will
feature films by Rox Lee, Tad Ermitaño, Dennis Empalmado, Ruelo Lozendo, Rafael Luna,
Wilfred Galila and Geraldine Flores. Also to be screened, are the short films and a feature
film of Filipino filmmaker John Torres. In charge of music for the event is filmmaker and DJ
Joel Quizon.
