Habang Papalayo by Emmanuel Garibay @ Boston Art Gallery

Habang Papalayo
Emmanuel Garibay
10-22 July 2010
Presented by Boston Art Gallery
in cooperation with Art Verite

Habang Papalayo, Emmanuel Garibay's latest one-man exhibition, opens at Boston Art gallery this month, marking his new offering of new works in oil on canvas and acrylic on paper.

Habang Papalayo showcases Garibay's recent takes on the themes of nationhood and popular culture, historical references, occurences and figures. At a critical point of this nation's history, where another presidential term ends and another begins, Garibay's works compel us to reflect on the significance of nationhood—what it meant before, and what is stands for today.

Born in Kidapawan, Cotabato,Garibay holds three degrees—an M. A. in Divinity from the Union Theological Seminary in Cavite, a B.F.A. in Fine Arts and an A.B. In Sociology from the University of the Philippines. Garibay's steady rise as an artist was marked by several distinctions, including the Thirteen Artists Award of the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2000, the Second Place (Painting Category) of the II Bienal del Baloncestoen Bellas Artes in Madrid, Spain, and the First Prize (Painting Category) of the Art Association of the Philippines Annual Competition in 1994. Garibay has steadfastly taken on themes of religion and spirituality, popular culture and protest, institutionalized religion and cultural structures in his growing body of works.

Habang Papalayo opens on July 10, 6pm at Boston Art Gallery, located at 72 Boston St. Cubao, Quezon City and runs until the 22nd of the month. For inquiries, please contact the gallery at 7229205.
