Bastedor Art Project invites everyone to a celebration of art in the group’s latest
exhibit entitled, “Mukha.” Featuring multi-awarded and well-respected
contemporary artists in the country the show promises to present us with
only the best of the best. The much-awaited event will be held on October
24, 2011 6 pm in ArtSpace ,Glorietta Mall.
For every masterpiece, there must be a foundation on which it stands.
“Bastedor,” is a group that attempts to embody such a foundation to the
people. By definition, a “Bastedor” is the wooden frame, which holds the
canvas on which the artist paints. It is only fitting, that the group has
taken this name for themselves as the perfect metaphor for what they hope
to do for the local artistic community.
Norlie Meimban, a distinguished visual artist and former animator, is one
of the pioneers of “Bastedor.” The group and this project in particular
have come into being from his own experiences as a struggling artist.
After enjoying a successful career in animation and advertising his
decision to devote his time fully to painting was not without difficulty.
And it is through those difficulties that he was able to see the
camaraderie and close ties among fellow artists who are more than willing
to help our a fellow craftsman. It is because of this that he hopes to
organize their loving capacity to support one another into a formal group,
and thus “Bastedor” was born.
Bastedor aims to, “to provide financial assistance for Filipino artists
and marginalized children…to help these artists to promote their arts
locally and internationally, and also to aid Filipino children in their
everyday lives through their own talents and skills.”
This coming October
will be a celebration of such a goal, with an upcoming event brought by
“Bastedor.”
“Bastedor Arrt Project: Mukha” will have its opening in Art Space in
