Rebellion by Jinggoy Buensuceso at Galleria Duemila

Jinggoy Buensuceso
July 5- August 31, 2014
Galleria Duemila Inc.
210 Loring Street, 1300 Pasay City

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Jinggoy Buensuceso explores the multiple dimensions of raging ideas and emotions in his solo show entitled Rebellion.

In Rebellion, the artist takes you on a tumultuous journey from the birth of a powerful idea that consumes an individual, the building pressure and force that makes people come together and move as one organism for a common passion and cause, the powerful release of tension and expression of freedom, to the quiet yet indelible aftermath which serves as a potent force within each and one of us. This potent force, when triggered ignites the vigorous cycle once more.

Rebellion is the aftermath of the artist’s personal turmoil as he separates himself from his present realities to fulfill his artistry away from the trappings of domestication. In this show, Buensuceso ventures into the bold and unorthodox use of materials and methods in the featured bodies of work, challenging the expected presentation of his mediums—industrial tracing paper and woodwork rendered with the severity of fire as well as uncovering new pursuits with cement, charcoal, and graphite—a reaction to the status quo. An uprising.

He graduated from the University of The Philippines in Diliman with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, major in Visual Communication in 2003.He is a strong proponent of linear art—his works evoke stories and brave statements of oneself, culture, and way of life through the use of lines. Buensucesof is also an emerging figure in Philippine furniture design, a three-time Mugna awardee, and co-founder of Epoch, a movement of six young international artists who provoke new thinking in the domain of furniture design.

The artist has gained extensive local and international experience in visual arts. His work showcase bold statements and clean lines. He is influenced by art and architecture in New York and Singapore where he was based the longest.

The exhibition will run from July 5- August 31, 2014 at Galleria Duemila, located at 210 Loring Street, 1300 Pasay City. For more information, please contact Thess Ponce or Mark Arvin Patiag, Tel. No. +632 831 9990; Telefax no. +632 833 9815, email: gduemila@gmail.com, Twitter and Instagram: @galleriaduemila or visit our website at www.galleriaduemila.com and follow us on Facebook.

Museum Foundation Mounts Proudly MaArte 2014

Proudly MaArte 2014 promises to be an outstanding intersection of arts and crafts as it brings together carefully selected pieces exquisitely designed and executed by local Filipino artisans from all over the country.

Now on its 5th year, the MaARTe Artisan Fair is an annual fundraising project of the Museum Foundation of the Philippines (MFPI) and will be staged at the Rockwell Tent on August 29-31, Friday to Sunday, from 10am to 10pm. Craft items produced by entrepreneurs, NGOs, designers and craftsmen have been meticulously selected to provide the discerning MaARTe shopper a wide array of striking items ranging from indigenous baskets and fabrics, charming home decor to elegant fashion accessories and delicate jewelry from more than 50 participants. For limited edition items from designer ateliers and museum shops, MFPI has a special section dubbed as MaARTe Finds.

This yearly gathering of local artisans at the MaARTe Fair aims to support the creative industries, and has been a unique platform for the Museum Foundation as it continues to support the National Museum and its many activities. Dannie Alvarez, a long-time exhibitions curator in numerous museum exhibitions and design fairs, has joined the MaARTeorganizing committee as creative director. He envisions this project as a showcase for “museum-quality crafts” that will provide the visitor a unique cultural shopping experience. Over the span of 3 days, The Rockwell Tent will be the perfect playground for those who enjoy draping and surrounding themselves with beautiful, vibrant and well-made pieces and aim to live life “may Arte”.

For this year, Security Bank and Smart Infinity lead the list of its partners. Corporate foundations have joined MaArte as well in presenting their community based efforts in assisting local artisans. The Museum Foundation of the Philippines will also include local food items under its banner, MaARTe Eats, which visitors can indulge in at the MaArte Lounge by Gree, and the MaARTe Café.

British Artist Questions “The Price of Everything”, Live in Manila

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Ever contemplated the difference between ‘price’ and ‘value’? Ever watched a ‘special performance lecture’? How about drank milk in a theater while doing all of the above? Now you can.

The PETA Theater Center, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and British Council Philippines present The Price of Everything by British performer Daniel Bye, showing at the PETA Studios on Thursday, July 10, 7:00 PM.

The Price of Everything has been performed to critical acclaim at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and enjoyed a sold-out run as part of the Northern Stage at St. Stephens Festival last year .

Profound, provocative and definitely funny, Bye becomes the proverbial gadfly through this one-man show. Touted as a ‘special performance lecture’, the show combines stand-up comedy, satire and storytelling.

Writer and performer Daniel Bye offers the audience milk

Bye is a theatre-maker from North East England whose material tackles big political and philosophical issues with naivety and reckless abandon. As part of the show, Bye asks the audience serious questions about ideology and money, while offering them all free glasses of milk!

More than just the show, Bye will also be giving a workshop on July 11 at 1:00PM -5:00PM, also at the PETA Theater Center. The workshop explores techniques in creating solo performances rooted in the performers own advocacies.

The Price of Everything was cited by United Kingdom daily The Times, as the “future of British theatre”. Manila audiences are invited to watch the Philippine premiere of what British paper The Independent reviewed as “ Is this show worth the ticket price? A resounding yes.”

Tickets to the show are P250.

The workshop fee, inclusive of one ticket to the show, is P1,000 per participant.

PETA Studios are located at the PETA Theater Center, No. 5, Eymard Drive, New Manila QC.

For inquiries and reservations, contact Ticketworld or the PETA Theater Center at 7256244 (loc 23), 09175183654 or email peta.theatercenter@gmail.com.
