31st Theatre Season and tours
For Regional Theatre watchers and those who wish to savor good theatre outside Manila :
Landmark musical Ranaw: Isang Alamat will be remounted at the MSU-IIT Mini-Theatre in Iligan City starting in Sept. 12 and the next 2 weeks after.
A 1986 CCP Playwriting Winner (originally the Gantimpala), the dance-musical toured extensively in the mid- and late-80’s receiving much critical acclaim. This production will adapt “New Theatre” techniques updating from its original staging. Its production celebrates the Ruby (40 years) anniversaries of both the MSU-IIT and the Cultural Center of the Philippines which will also remount the play in February 2009.
The play presents our pre-colonial tribes in turmoil of conditions that prophesy our fragmented state today. Dug from the research of the late Dionisio Orellana, Ranaw narrates of the journey of Maguindanaon- Maranao-Higaunun -Iliganun epic hero Bato Lakungan.
Elsewhere, our Tales From Mindanao dance-theatre saga continues its national tours on these times and places this August: 9, Crossroads, Q.C. (in front of St. Mary’s College); 12-13, Miriam College, Q.C.; 16, selected public schools, Manila; 17, Xavier School, Mandaluyong; 26, La Salle Zobel, Ayala Alabang. More dates will be later announced.
The same Tales performs in Ho Chi Minh City , Vietnam on October 2 before the company flies to the U.S. for several shows in October and November. (Specific dates will be later announced.)
(The post modern epiKlogo, a distillation of 3 Mindanao epic heroes, originally scheduled also in September, has been moved to a later date after the confusions and uncertainties of the Mindulani-initiated Mindanao theatre festival shall have been resolved.)
Ranaw is supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the MSU-IIT.
May we see you in one of these shows?
