Beyond Frame: Philippine Photomedia
28 October - 21 November 2008
UTS Gallery
Level 4, 702 Harris Street
Ultimo Sydney, NSW Australia
Twelve artists push the boundaries of traditional photography and its derivatives moving beyond the frame as a 'filter' to local nuances, historic anchors and site-specificity. This is an astute picture of Philippine contemporary art now.
The first exhibition of Philippine photography and photomedia to be presented in Australia will open at Sydney's UTS Gallery 28 October from 6 - 8 pm. Curated by Gina Fairley, this exhibition will travel the work of twelve artists that push the boundaries of medium and a prescribed imaging of the Philippines in new expressions from video installation, digital banners, site-specific wall-drawing and a kind of third world manipulation of traditional photography.
