NCCA presents 3rd NEO-ANGONO Public Art Festival

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), tutoK Karapatan (Human Rights Watch), National Union of Journalists of the Philippines and NEO-ANGONO Artists Collective present the 3rd NEO-ANGONO Public Art Festival (Publikhaan: Making Human Rights Issues Public) on November 16-22.

More than 250 artists and performers from Angono, Manila, Southern Tagalog, Cebu and Mindanao will participate in the art festival which features poetry, mobile prints, mural, paintings, art installations, kinetic sculpture, time-based works, artists talk and symposium, performance art, exhibits, interactive and collaborative works, site-specific works, storytelling, film showing and video screening, shadowplay, sign intervention and concert.

“The annual NEO-ANGONO Public Art Festival celebrates the seven artistic idioms. It is an art _expression and experience that is wedded in the local community and Angono people,” says Richard Gappi, the group’s president.

Gappi is a poet and cultural worker.

“By doing this art festival, we hope to create new perception, intertwine the intellect with emotion and soul, and respond to the times,” explains Wire Rommel Tuazon, the group’s chairman of the board.

Tuazon is a visual artist and a CCP Thirteen Artists awardee.

DAY 1: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16

Neo-Angono artists and Public Art participants traditionally open the festival by paying tribute to National Artists Carlos “Botong” Francisco and Maestro Lucio San Pedro at Angono Public Cemetery, M.L. Quezon Avenue, Barangay San Isidro

“Keypad Unlocked” (Send-a-text Poetry about Human Rights) by poetry groups Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika at Anyo (LIRA), Kilometer 64, Kamakatahan Poets, Timog Poetry Collective and Neo-Angono poets
