REKADOS by Paolo Herras, a Magical Tragi-comedy Starring Meryll Soriano and Eula Valdes Premieres at the 2nd Cinema One Originals Film Festival this November.
Cinema One never fails to add flavor to the Philippine movie landscape. This is because Rekados, one of the chosen and official seven digifilms of the Cinema One Originals will run from November 24 to 26 for the 2nd Annual Cinema One Originals Digital Movie Festival at the Indie Sine of Robinsons Galleria (Cinema 8, for tickets contact JAM 09186925395.
Rekados will also have its separate premiere screening on November 20 at the SM Megamall Cinema 1 at 7pm.
Written and directed by Paolo Herras of the acclaimed indie film Lambanog, Rekados is a magical tragic comedy of three generations of cooks in the slums that owns a carinderia. Josefina (Boots Anson Roa), the matriarch whose traditional skill in cooking keeps the family alive; Laura (Eula Valdes), the daughter who prefers cooking to please her customers and the man she desires; and caught in between the two is Pinay (Meryll Soriano), the granddaughter who mimics Kris Aquino to get a basketball player of her own.
In their small world of the kitchen that empowers and imprisons them, they cook dishes that symbolize their affection: adobo; kare-kare; dinuguan; and pansit. 25-year old Paolo Herras finished a one-year scholarship grant at the Philippine High School for the Arts where he majored in Creative Writing. Paolo Herras was then accepted at the 33rd U.P. National Writer's Workshop in 1998. During his senior year of high school at Colegio San Agustin Makati, Paolo Herras was accepted at the 11th Ricky Lee Scriptwriting Workshop (1999).
Paolo Herras took up BA Comparative Literature at UP Diliman and became a varsity scholar of the UP Men's Volleyball Varsity Team. Paolo Herras' first full-length script, P1.00/MIN (one peso per minute) won the 3rd Prize of Star Cinema's 1st Scriptwriting Contest (2000).
Paolo Herras is currently an M.A. Philippine Studies student at UP Diliman, a part-time faculty of the DLS-CSB and a member of the Cinema Evaluation Board.
The 2nd Annual Cinema One Originals Festival will hold its awarding ceremonies on November 26, 5:00 pm at the Greenhills Teatrinos in San Juan. To be hosted by Cinema One numero uno star Piolo Pascual and channel moviejock Bianca Gonzalez.
