Heir to the artistic traditions of Simon Flores, Juan Luna and Felix Resurrección Hidalgo, Fabian dela Rosa was the first Filipino dean of the School (now college) of Fine Arts of UP (UPSFA), and the first mentor of National Artist Fernando Amorsolo, and his brother Pablo.
A leading academic painter at the time of worldwide social ferment, and revolution and nationalism in the country, his works reflect much of the nation’s history.
This exhibition is a fitting and timely tribute to dela Rosa, as well as in preparation for the UP centenary celebration in 2008.
The exhibit also includes several pieces by Simon Flores, the Amorsolo brothers, and his contemporaries and colleagues from the UPSFA. The exhibition is organized in association with the Spanish Program for Cultural Cooperation and the Filipiniana.net, a division of the Vibal Publishing House, Inc.
