October 16 to 28, 2006
Gallery hours: 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.,
Tuesday to Saturday
The Alcove will feature Philippine lower mythology’s gallery of rogues in Katakot-takot—an exhibit of literature’s depictions of such creatures as the aswang, kapre, and nuno sa punso. Horror stories, whether oral or written, fulfill a social function in communities beyond being a mere source of entertainment. Many people use tales of horror as a medium of social control, whether to discipline an unruly child, to protect one’s property, or even to suppress deviant behavior. Featured also in the exhibit are short accounts of personal encounters with these natives of the nether world.
To view this exhibit, please visit the Filipinas Heritage Library along Makati Avenue, Ayala Triangle, Makati City (across The Peninsula Manila).
