The Communication Foundation for Asia invites you to Film and Faith, a
very special 3-day seminar on the use of popular films for
evangelization and values education. Fr. Peter Malone, a Missionary
of the Sacred Heart and internationally- known movie critic and film
festival juror, will travel from London to conduct the seminar at CFA.
Fr. Malone has been actively involved in media advocacy through film
education for the past 36 years.
Fr. Malone is an International Consultant to the Bishops' Committee
for Film in the Philippines. He was President of the International
Organization for the Cinema (OCIC) and of SIGNIS (World Catholic
Association for Communication) until 2005. He has written 25 books on
film, including "Movie Christs and Anti-Christs, " "The Film" and
"Films and Values." He is co-author of "Lights, Camera...Faith! ", a
3-volume movie lectionary.
Film and Faith aims at enriching pastoral work through a better
understanding and appreciation of the use of film. It is actually a
two-part seminar. Part One is all about Jesus in Cinema and
Christ-Figures. It focuses on the history of Jesus films and exposes
Christ-figures and their evolution in cinema. Furthermore, Part One
outlines the major changes in theology and spirituality in the 20th
century.
Part Two is titled Pastoral Use of Cinema. Its goal is to train
participants in a much-improved, critical appreciation of films in
their contemporary form and content. Participants are also guided
through a discovery of better ways to make films relevant to audiences
today. A significant number and variety of films will be shown
throughout the seminar.
The seminar will be on January 15-17, 2007 at the CFA Auditorium. It
is open to media educators, communication students, catechists and
film buffs. A registration fee will be charged to cover meals and
materials, and you can take advantage of a discount for early or group
registrations.
