Tanghalang Ateneo presents Middle Finger Po

Tanghalang Ateneo in its 28th season, A Season of Awakening, presents its second play this November with Tanghalang Ateneo members performing on a socially awakening play, Middle Finger po, taken from the perspectives of today’s youth.

The play, written by MacArthur foundation Genius Grant Recipient Han Ong as Middlefinger is translated into Filipino by Tanghalang Ateneo Alumni Ronan Capinding, has been seen by millions in the United States and now comes to the Philippines laced with local color.

This brilliant adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s Spring Awakening centers on four Filipino students in search of sense and strategy in a world dominated by adults. The friendship of the four boys gets threatened when one of them, Lunga, gets unjustly expelled for allegedly keeping pornographic playing cards in his locker. Two friends, Yachin and Wallace, drift apart soon after the incident. Another friend, Jakob, awakens to hate and conspires with Lunga, who returns as a ghost, to take vengeance on the adult world. A must-see for students, parents, teachers, and counselors.

Ronan Capinding, the translator, also directs the play, while Gino Gonzales acts as consultant for production design. Lambert de Jesus does the lighting design while the design for graphics and multimedia will be handled by Reamur David. The set is designed by Jesus Joseph Ignacio and the costumes were designed by Jean Pierre Reniva.

The play will be staged at the Rizal Mini Theater, Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights, Quezon City.
