ICON celebrates 30th anniversary of Mario O'Hara's Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos
The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the International Circle of Online Noranians (ICON) present a commemorative 30th anniversary screening of Mario O'Hara's Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos on November 19, 2006 (Sunday), 3:00 pm, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Dream Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay City . (The film will be shown in 35 mm format.)
Set during the "three godless years" of the Japanese occupation, Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos is a prime example of Mario O'Hara cinematic style. It showcases a rare combination of performances by Nora Aunor, Christopher de Leon, and Bembol Roco.
Written by Mario O'Hara and produced by Nora Aunor herself when she was only 23 years old, Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos won for the Superstar the best actress awards from both the FAMAS and the Urian, the first "grandslam" victory by a Filipino actress and marked her transition to a heavy-weight dramatic actress.
This landmark film, Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos, topped critic Noel Vera's list of greatest Filipino films of all time and was cited in a survey among activists in the country as one of the ten most politically radical Filipino films.
Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos was shown in 1981 at the Festival of Three Continents in Nantes, France, and in Portugal the following year. Since then, it has been a staple in Filipino film festivals abroad, most recent of which were the 2nd Asian Film Festival ( Tokyo 1997), the Philippine Film Festival in Fukuoka (2003), and the New York Filipino Film Festival (2006).
The film (Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos) is archived by the Fukuoka National Library and the Tokyo Museum of Modern Art.
