Tanghalang Pilipino announces open auditions for its 20th season
ender, The Pretenders (Ang Mga Huwad), adapted for the stage by
Palanca award-winning playwright Rody Vera, based on the novel by
National Artist for Literature and Ramon Magsaysay Awardee F. Sionil
Jose. Auditions will be held on December 8 and 9, 2006, from 1:00 PM
to 6:00 PM, at the Bulwagang Amado Hernandez (Conference Room), Upper Ground Floor, CCP Main Building, CCP Complex, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City.
The director is interested in screening middle-aged- looking male and
female actors with Caucasian, Spanish, Filipino or Chinese features,
as well as male and female actors ages 18 and up. They will be
required to present a 3-minute monologue in Filipino from any
published local or foreign play. All interested actors must bring
their updated resume with their most flattering colored headshot.
Applicants must be available for the production schedule, with
rehearsals from December to January, and performances from February 2 – 25, 2006 at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater).
THE PRETENDERS, to be directed by 2003 Aliw Best Stage Director, Chris Millado, tells of an intellectual who rises from his peasant
beginnings, obtains a doctorate from Harvard, marries into a rich
family, and belatedly realizes that behind the pristine luxury of
glitz and glamour awaits the seductive monster of greed. A tale of
lost ideals, compromise and corruption, this dark panoramic vision of
the Philippines powerfully drives its message home: a society intent
only on calculating a man's price is one that ultimately devalues all men.
