Come and watch Maurice Ravel's L'enfant et les Sortileges. November 22 and 23 at 3PM at the University of the Philippines (UP) Abelardo Hall!
Originally set in Normandy, France in Collette's libretto, the opera tells of how a naughty boy enounters magic as his room and the animals in the garden comes alive to teach him life's lessons. ASEAN-Arts Council Korea Fellow meLê yamomo's staging brings the opera to a mystical village in Cambodia, where a naughty novice child monk was bewitched by the master monk's magical lessons. Adding magic to the production are Otto Hernandez's design incorporating Khmer sbek tom puppets and Bharratanatyam-inspired dances choreographed by Indian dance scholar Angel Lawenko.
