Winner Jumalon
“A Part”, a solo show
Pinto Art Gallery, Antipolo
Opens 6 June 2010
This is a graveyard. But the tombstones are not made of stone. No epitaphs honor the dead. Nor are there bodies. Just an expanse of heads and things painted on back-to-back portraits and still lives entirely made of resin. Winner Jumalon takes his portraits out of the gallery to the outdoors—transferring the faces from canvas to sturdy resin, using hard-wearing automotive paint instead of oil or acrylic. Doing thus, the artist fortifies these portraits and still lives, usually fragile against the elements, to render high, exclusive art as public and finally, quite accessible.
A Part opens on the 6th of June, Sunday, 3pm at Pinto Art Gallery in Antipolo City. Pinto Art Gallery is a member of the Silangan Foundation for the Arts, Culture and Ecology. It is located at #1 Sierra Madre St. Grandheights, Antipolo, City. For inquiries you may email us atsilangangardens@yahoo.com or call us at (632) 6971015.
The show is curated by Ruel Caasi.
