SINADYA SA HALARAN FESTIVAL (THANKSGIVING)

PASTORES BICOL

Caroling, Bicol-style. The Pastores is a musical re-enactment of the age-old nativity story. Colorful costumes are worn by singers, in honor of the biblical sheperds who sang the first Christmas carols. SHARIFF KABUNSUAN (ISLAM)

The grandest festival commemorating the arrival of Shariff Kabunsuan, an Arab Malay missionary from Johore, Malay Peninsula to bring Islam in Mainland Mindanao.

To enliven the holiday season, all sectors of the city are enjoined to light up their respective places or establishments and to use the sinamay either as the main material or accent in their Christmas decorations.

MISA DE GALLO

Misa de Gallo is a Filipino yuletide tradition that starts on the 16th of December and culminates in a midnight mass on Christmas Eve. Roman Catholics attend the daily mass at three or four in the morning. Upon exiting the church, the hungry is enticed by the sight and smell of puto bumbong and bibingka (native delicacies made of sticky and glutinous rice sold nearby).

BOD-BOD FESTIVAL

SAN FERNANDO GIANT LANTERN FESTIVAL

Giant lanterns of participating barangays measuring from 14 feet to 18 feet in diameter in multi-colored designs and patterns thrill and delight the spectator with their kaleidoscopic patterns of light danced to the music of accompanying bands.

KANYONG KAWAYAN FESTIVAL
December 17 23 | Kidapawan City, North Cotabato
A unique activity to discourage the use of dangerous pyrotechnics during the yuletide season. A citywide contest features the firing of bamboo canons using empty milk cans as projectiles.

Street dancing and showdown competitions the day before the fiesta. They celebrate the scarecrows (tawo-tawo) through paper mache higantes as guardians of the town’s crops.

PAMITINAN FESTIVAL
December 22 | Rodriguez (Montalban),Rizal
Pamitinan is a cave in Rodriguez (Montalban) where secret meeting of Andres Bonifacio and 8 other Katipuneros were held during the month of April 1895, it is also the cave where the legendary Bernardo Carpio was imprisoned by ‘engkantados’, the crystal water of Wawa River is also found inside the cave and lastly the cave serves as sanctuary to the late hero of the town Gen. Licerio Geronimo.

SANDUROT FESTIVAL
December 23 24 | Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental
Is a joyful celebration of the people of Dumaguete, their innate hospitality, friendliness, and their propensity to live harmoniously with people of different race, religion, and cultural beliefs. Through the course of history and to the present time, the people of Dumaguete have always been known to welcome strangers from different shores and countries, and to live with them in complete peace and understanding.

MAYTINIS FESTIVAL (GRAND CELEBRATION)
December 24 | Kawit, Cavite
A well-loved Caviteno tradition, the Maytinis is a dramatic retelling of St. Joseph’s and Virrgin Mary’ search in Bethlehem for a place to stay. They found not a room, of course, but a stable where Christ was eventually born. Much rejoicing erupts as the play ends, culminating in a lively parade down the street of Kawit. It is a uniquely Filipino translation of this ancient biblical episode.

PASIDUNGOG KAY SEÑOR SAN MIGUEL FESTIVAL
December 24- December 31 | San Miguel, Iloilo
A week-long religious festival celebrated by the people of San Miguel, Pasidungog is a time for thanksgiving

KANYON-KANYON FESTIVAL (PATUNOG-TUNOG KANYON SA NEW YEAR)
December 25- December 31 | Bgy. Cabugao Norte, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo
A revival of an old tradition. This is the residents’ own way of celebrating the New Year by making loud sounds through bamboo “kanyons”.

STO. NIÑO FIESTA
December 25- January 1 | Basco, Batanes
Initiated province-wide by the Church and local officials, the image is brought to all Ivatan homes accompanied by the church choir & a band

PAWIL DAGUPAN
December 25- December 31 | Dagupan City
Part of City Fiesta celebration honoring Dagupeños living abroad to celebrate Christmas season with their relatives and friens thru colorful parade and dances.

PUTO FESTIVAL
December 26- December 28 | Calasiao, Pangasinan
Celebration of the town’s major produce, rice cake (puto).

DAMILI FESTIVAL
December 26 30 | San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte
This is celebrated during San Nicolas Festival that highlights as a street dance competition pantomiming the Damilian’s pottery making.

PAKANO FESTIVAL
December 27 | Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur
Subanen festival aimed at preserving the culture of the Subanens

KALIUGYON FESTIVAL
December 28- January 1 | Libacao, Aklan
Kaliugyon means, kali for kalye or streets and ugyon for unity or union in the streets. Libacaonons go out for a wild revelry of merrymaking to celebrate the coming of the New Year.

NIÑOS INOSENTES DAY OR YAWA-YAWA FESTIVAL
December 28 | Ibajay, Aklan
It is participated by 2-3 barangays wherein they dress in scary costumes and they go from house to house asking for Christmas gifts and goodies.

HORSE FESTIVAL
December 29- December 30 | Plaridel, Bulacan
A herd of horses with colorful tilburies parading in the streets of Plaridel in reverence to St. Apostle. It is held every 29th and 30th of December.

TULTUGAN FESTIVAL (DRUM & BAMBOO)
December 29 | Maasin, Iloilo
Tultugan is the Hiligaynon and Kiniray-a word for the indigenous bamboo drum. It is the emerging festival of the province and the region.

RIZAL’S DEATH ANNIVERSARY
December 30 | Dapitan City
Declared a national holiday, and Dapitan City which served as Dr. Jose Rizal’s home for 4 years in exile, highlights of this occasion with activities focusing on Rizal, including lectures on his life, works and ideas by known speakers.

RIZAL DAY COMMEMORATION
December 30 | Silay City Plaza
The day opens with a solemn holy sacrifice of the mass at San Diego Pro-Cathedral to remember the death of a martyr and hero.

PAKALOG SA PASIG
December 31 | Pasig City
People contribute and lay out a feast on the main street of the barangay and everybody partakes of it.

FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
December 2006- January 2007 | Town Plaza, Naga, Cebu
The festival of lights means the installation of miniature lights to trees, plants and structures in and around the municipal park to add more color and spirit of the Filipino traditional Christmas celebration.

PASKUHANG BAYAN
December 2006 | Samal, Bataan
Celebration of Christmas with a touch of Filipino culture and values.

CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL
