Concert at the Park
Continuing the ‘merry season’ in Concert at the Park this Sunday, December 10, 2006, starting at 5:00 in the afternoon, are the pride of Angeles City, Pampanga – the Angeles University Foundation Band and the Angeles University Foundation Pop Band with majorette exhibition, under the music direction of Prof. Julio “Julie” Macapagal. Venue is the Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium, Rizal Park, Manila. Ms. Minette Padilla is program host.
Concert at the Park is a regular weekly program of the National Parks Development Committee, under Executive Director Carlito A. Fajardo. Mr. Federico A. Edos is the Executive In Charge of the concert project. Mrs. Gie V. Arnold writes the script. The presentation on Sunday is in cooperation with the Angeles University Foundation.
The Angeles University Foundation Band or AUF Band is the former Angeles Institute of Technology Band or AIT Band which was founded in 1963 and considered to be the first performing arts group to be organized in Angeles City, Pampanga.
At present, the AUF Band is composed of college, grade school and high school students of the AUF. With the full support of Dr. Emmanuel Angeles, the university chancellor, the AUF has become the only higher learning institution in Region III with a well-organized existing 80-piece marching band, an orchestra and a show band. Its music director/conductor Prof. Julio “Julie” G. Macapagal is an active member of the Philippine School Band Directors Association or Philsbanda.
The AUF Pop Band, the 2004 Battle of the Bands winner, is the official AUF Show Band. It is composed of students from the College of Nursing and College of Medical Profession.
The AUF Band and Pop Band have prepared the following programme for this Sunday’s concert: AUF Band – COMMANDANTE MARCH by Gus Guentzel, with featured conductor Reycris Magtuloy; BARBER OF SEVILLE OVERTURE by Rossini; BEAUTIFUL COLORADO by Charles Roberts, featuring Kristal Davis, alto sax solo, with conductor Cristina Mellen Sundiang; ONE MOMENT IN TIME by Hammond-Betis and arranged for the band by Julie Macapagal; FLORENTINER MARCH by J. Fucik; TANNHAUSER CONCERT PIECE as arranged by National Artist Lucio D. San Pedro; CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL by Leroy Anderson; AUF HYMN by Gildo Garcia and arranged by Julie Macapagal; and the AUF Pop Band – YUGYUGAN NA by POT; ROSSANA by Toto; and PINOY AKO by Orange and Lemons.
