What if suddenly an Ice Age happened within the year, what materials will the survivors find frozen in ice? – This is one of the wonders hovering around artist/photographer Tom Epperson’s mind while conceptualizing his set of works “12 Below”. The exhibition title pertains to the temperature of the industrial freezer in which the artist keeps different objects frozen.
Epperson captures the Filipino culture by freezing items belonging to a Filipino family. The works provoke a discourse on foreign influences and problems of identity through cracks and fissures upon and within the frozen objects.
The exhibit runs from 16 September to 7 October 2011 at NOVA Gallery, Warehouse12A, La Fuerza Compound, 2241 Don Chino Roces Ave., Makati City.
