Popscape: Every day in Indonesia
at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP)
The Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) present “Popscape: Every day in Indonesia ”, an exhibition featuring five emerging Indonesian artists who present the random tendencies in contemporary art as they live out their milieu. The exhibit will be run from June 14 – July 29, 2007 at the Bulwagang Fernando Amorsolo, 4th Floor CCP, Roxas Boulevard , Pasay City.
Artists Cinanti Astria, Dewi Aditia, Prilla Tania, Rizki Utama and Wedhar Riyadi explore facets of contemporary art in Indonesia as they experience it. The artists apply a range of strategies that confront challenges in varied media like fabric, pen and paper, Styrofoam, photography and watercolor. Running through these works is a strong graphic thread, a disposition toward illustration and the appropriation of the animation sensibility or, in some instances, the Japanese superflat aesthetics. “Popscape” is curated by Patrick Flores, Nurdian Ichsan and Midori Hirota.
