Cuerdas: Rhythms of Community Life
Siliman University
February 21, 2007 to March 31, 2007
The 2nd International Rondalla festival features an exhibit on a shared cultural heritage of plucked string music.
Working on the festival's theme, Cuerdas sa Panaghiusa or strings of unity, the exhibit highlights the concept that rondalla musical occasions are sites and time of community building - or strings that unite/bind people to a sense of place-their communities.
The exhibit will highlight musical experiences of the different towns of the host province, Oriental Negros, the plucked string traditions of the Visayas region and the Philippines, and sampling of plucked string instruments from various cultures.
The exhibit is presented by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts through the Musicology Society of the Philippines, in partnership with the Province of Oriental Negros, in cooperation with the UP COllage of Music, and the support of the Siliman University.
The exhibit Cuerdas: Rhythms of Community Life @ Siliman University runs from February 21, 2007 to March 31, 2007.
