BALLET MANILA will have its 11th summer workshop, Just Dance 10!, from April 10 to May 27. Ballet enthusiasts 18 years old and below can join and learn techniques from Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, BM's artistic director and principal ballerina, and Osias Barroso, artistic associate and ballet master. The classes are divided into four levels, from beginners to advance. It also includes pointe class, variations, pas de deux, partnering, boys' classes and adult ballet. There is also a baby ballet class for children as young as three years old. Enrollment begins on March 17 and will end on April 14. The classes will culminate in a two-day recital, which will be held on May 26 and 27 at the Star Theatre. Auditions for scholars and apprentices will be held from 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 17. GANTIMPALA opens its doors to potential stage actors and actresses as the company announces the opening of its musical theater workshop for young men and women ages 13 and above. Classes are every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday starting April 11 until May 19, at the Rehearsal Hall of the Concert at the Park Open Air Auditorium, in the heart of historic Luneta, Manila. It offers lectures and actual exercises on the following: acting, singing and dancing, this is in preparation for a musical theater performance. A musical revue will be mounted by the participants as a culminating activity. Roeder Camañag will be its facilitator with tenor Nazer Salcedo as voice teacher. Gantimpala Theater artistic director is Tony S. Espejo. The workshop is in cooperation with the National Parks and Development Committee (NPDC). PETA invites everyone to join its theater arts workshop. The following courses are offered: Children's Theater 1 (6-8 years old), Children's Theater 2 (9-12 years old), Teen Theater 1 (ages 13 to 17); Courses for ages 17 years old and above are: Theater Arts 1, Theater Arts Production, Creative Musical Theater and Basic Acting. The Children's Theater Production allows the kids to experience creating stories, imagining scenes and interpreting characters from folk tales, fairy tales and their own stories. An advanced course is available for those who have undergone the children's theater courses or its equivalent. Teen Theater explores the different styles of experimental and alternative media, as well as the traditional forms of art. Those who have previously taken this program may advance to Teen Theater Production where the participants work on different genres. Asian and Western theater traditions including the Philippines will be discussed. Educators and drama club moderators are offered three different courses: Children's Theater Production and the Theater-in-Educatio n series which has two modules, Creative Pedagogy and Asian Theater. Classes will begin on April 10 at the PETA Theater Center at #5 Sunnyside Drive, New Manila, behind the Quezon City Sports Club.
